TOPIC: Trial and Peter’s Denial of Jesus Christ (Matt 26: 47-68, 69-75)
From the Garden of Gethsemane where the soldiers arrested Jesus, they took Him to the house of Caiaphas the high priest. There the members of the Jewish council (Sanhedrin) had gathered for His trial. This council is made up of the scribes, the Pharisees, the elders and the high priest as the presiding officer .At the arrest of Jesus all the disciples deserted Him as He told them .only Peter followed at a far distance to see what would happen to Jesus.
The, council sought for false accusation against Jesus in order to put Him to death. Many false witnesses came forward and said. This man said “I am able to destroy the Temple of God and to rebuild it in three days” but Jesus did not say anything to defend himself. The high priest asked whether He was the Christ, the son of man seated at the right hand of power and coming on the clouds of heaven in anger, the high priest Tore his garment and said that Jesus answer was blasphemy against God.
The high priest then asked the crowd the judgment, they in one voice said He deserved death.
