DEFINITION OF PEST

Pest is any animal that is capable of damaging crop plant or livestock.

CLASSIFICATION OF CROP PEST

Crop pests are classified base on

1. The part of crop plant they attack
2. Their animal type

CLASSIFICATION OF CROP PESTS BASED ON THE PARTS OF CROP PLANT THEY ATTACK

They are (a) stem borers (b) root feeders (c)leaf feeders (d) young shoot feeders € Fruit and seed feeders

1. Stem Borers, egs, larvae of mouth
2. Root Feeders egs, yam beetle
3. Leef Feeders,, yam beetle
4. Leef Feeders, egs, leaf feeding beetle, caterpillar of various moths and butterflies, grasshoppers and locusts
5. Young shoot Feeders, egs, Aphids, cassava mealy bugs and scale insects
6. Fruit and seed feeders, egs fruit piercing moths, fruit flies, cotton Stainers, and certain beetles

1. Lepidoptera larvae (Larvae of butterfly and moth)

Vertebrate Crop Pest Include

1. Birds
2. Mammals
