WRITING AN ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY.

EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE SHOULD BE ABOLISHED IN OUR SOCIETY.

Chairman,  Panel of Judges, Time-Keeper, Co-Debaters, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good Day. I am here to support the motion which states that Examination Malpractice should be abolished in our Society. When we say examination malpractice, it means academic dishonesty and academic fraud.  This means any type of cheating during examination process. It does not only refer to students but to staffs.  It has become one of the common acts in the Society today which is very wrong. People now see examination malpractice as a business opportunity most especially in secondary sectors. Everyday, students device various subtle tricks to cheat in examinations. Parents are not exempted from this practice. They encourage their children/wards in doing it.

Examination malpractice kills the conscience of the person involved in it. Students and other people who aid and abet examination malpractice will be so engaged in it to the extent that they will become dishonest in all their dealings and activities. Such people will not be able to assess themselves correctly as to what they are capable of doing. They will be dishonest in whatever they do because,  they don’t believe in their competence.

Also,  Examination Malpractice causes injustice and unfairness on the intelligent students. This happens after the examination, when the results are out, you’ll see unintelligent ones that cheated in the exam, scoring higher than the intelligent ones who did not cheat. This act of injustice and unfairness sends an ugly and bad signals to the students by making them to nurse the idea that indulging in an examination malpractice will make them score high marks.

Furthermore, Examination Malpractice causes lack of confidence and courage amongst the intelligent students. When these intelligent ones see their lazy and opportunistic colleagues coming out in flying colours at their expense, when they have rarely studied hard and have not cheated,  it demoralizes them.

Lastly,  Examination Malpractice is a monster that has eaten deep into our educational system. It is having a devastating effect on our Society as a whole. It has made our students and pupils in both primary and secondary schools to be lazy and unwilling to study. So, why do you engage yourself in an act that is not profitable to you and your society?  I urge you today to quit and stop the negative act of examination malpractice because,  you are cheating yourself and the Society.

With these points of mine,  I hope that I have been able to convince you with my well-articulated points that Examination Malpractice should be abolished in our Society. Thank you.
