 VIOLENCE IN SPORTS

Violence is the destructive activities which cause pain or suffering to people. Violence in sports is a product of some factors such as

1.Fanacism of people especially those who share ethnic or cultural affiliation with a particular sports team.

 2.Feelings of unfair officiating.

 3.Effects of narcotics or hard drug usage

 4.Loss of good playing form

5.Insecurity or poor security plans during sporting activities. 6.Ignorance of sports rules.

7.Absence of restraint bars to the sports arena.

 EFFECTS OF VIOLENCE

1.Death of persons

 2.Destruction of property.

 3.Disruption of the flow in the sports program.

 4.Irregularities in the outcome of sports events due to intimidation and threats.

5.Lack of recognition for the particular society’s sports development.

 WAYS TO CONTROL VIOLENCE IN SPORTS

  1. Promulgation of good laws to encourage sports development
  2. Use of adequate security personnel to protect participants.
  3. Ensuring that officiating officials are not biased.
  4. Educating the fans to desist from violence.
  5. Punishment of defaulters to discourage others.
